Let's Talk Pixies.

I opted for a super bubbly, thick pixie cut when I was thirteen. Being that age and not having super supportive friends (welcome to junior high) made it hard AFTER the cut, but I was all for it. It's been a struggle these past few years with my self-esteem, but it was definitely worth it. Now that I've grown out of my self-conscious, I-have-to-be-a-photocopy-of-everyone-else phase, I love my hair. I've had it super razored and thin (Sami Gayle), rounded and full (Ginnifer Goodwin in Once Upon a Time), and just about everything in between. My hair stylist adores me for changing up my style every few months!

Michelle Williams (again)

Emma Watson (I have yet to try her cut! People always tell me we look alike. I don't see it.)

Carey Mulligan just doing what Carey Mulligan does (aka being the most adorable person in the world).

If you think you can't pull off a super classy pixie, you are TOTALLY wrong. Emphasis on totally!!!!! Since having short hair, my eye has trained itself to see just the shape of peoples' faces, and almost every person I have ever seen could most definitely pull of a pixie. Just look at the various face shapes these women have! I'm sure you have similar facial features.

All right. Time for common misconceptions.

1. Pixie cuts are so low-maintenance! Yeah... sorry to break it to you, but they kind of aren't. You have to get it trimmed every four to six weeks so you don't wander into Mullet Land. Most of the time, you'll wake up looking like a chicken or a lion. But that's easily fixed by a quick shower and blowout.

2. I don't know if I could get used to it. Yeah, it's a big step, especially if you're like me and went from having waist-length hair to cutting off eleven inches. It did take a little bit of time to get used to it when I looked in the mirror every morning, but now my hair and I are best friends. I see my hair and I'm like "hey, hair, how's it going today? Good? Yeah, I know, because you're my hair."
Okay... anyways...

3. People will think I look weird. This is cliché, I know, but who cares what other people think? It's your hair. It's no one else's business but your own what you do with it. It took me a long time to accept the fact that I didn't care what people thought of my hair, but now that I have accepted that, I'm happier with myself.

Okay, I think three is a reasonable number.

So if you haven't already made a hair appointment whilst reading this post, do so now! I encourage you! But make sure you consult with the internet or your hair stylist for what cut will suit your face shape/accentuate your features best.

All the best!

I AM SO SORRY.

So, unfortunately I did not even get to share some news with you because I have been so extremely busy. I was just in my first full-scale musical! It was a production of Chicago: A Musical Vaudeville through my amazing performing arts school. Although performing it was a wonderful opportunity and I had so much fun, the rehearsals were very stressful. And as a result, a week before opening night I started getting migraines. And I have had the same one for almost three weeks now! Getting on antibiotics soon. But anyways, since I know you don't care so much about my personal issues, as this is a fashion blog... I shall resume posting wonderful style tips, as well as maybe some makeup tutorials... :)... and of course, the splendid OOTD's. And I shall do so within the next couple of weeks. I promise!!! And don't forget to follow me on Twitter and Instagram at @theverbtopretty for reminders of new posts and OOTD's. When I dress cute. But my lonely spring break has just been me in leggings and yoga tees, and I don't need to post that on the interwebs.

Until then, go watch some Gossip Girl and Audrey movies. That's what I'll be doing.

Au revoir!

Red white and blue: all year long!

Usually when people hear the words "red, white, and blue" they think of things such as: America, American, freedom, USA, American flag, Fourth of July, etc.* Yes, I do think of that sometimes--mostly around Independence Day time--but USUALLY I think of RETRO!
Yes, retro! Old Americana and cute pin-up style.
Pinned in the blog are pictures of my favorite outfit! It features:
1. Peter Pan collared blouse (layered under sweater; Nordstrom summer 2012)
2. Umbrella graphic striped sweater (Forever 21 fall 2011)
3. Navy blazer (Abercrombie & Fitch summer 2012)
4. Royal blue jeans (Gap summer 2012)
5. Red ballet flats (Old Navy fall 2012)
6. Vintage Dooney & Bourke satchel

So don't be afraid to try red white and blue this winter... Or any season!

Stay pretty!
